Last week the First Minister announced plans to ease the current lockdown in Scotland. In Phase 1 of these new measures the Government is ‘planning to allow unrestricted outdoors exercise adhering to distancing measures and non-contact outdoor activities in the local area – such as golf, hiking, canoeing, outdoor swimming, angling – consistent with the wider rules and guidance applicable to any activity in this phase.’
This Thursday the First Minister will confirm the date on which Phase 1 will commence, but Scottish Golf has advised that ‘clubs may now prepare their course and their membership for play to commence on 29 May’. On this assumption please click here for our plan to reopen all three Gullane courses from 8.00am on Friday, or as soon thereafter as is permitted. The booking of tee times will open at 9.00am tomorrow.
Please bear in mind the Government statement that in this Phase: ‘people will be able to travel – preferably by walking or cycling – to a location near their local community for recreation. Although, we are asking people where possible to stay within or close to their own local area.’
For the Government’s Phase 1 protocols with respect to travel and much else, please see the ‘Guidance for Golf Clubs and Golfers on Returning to Golf in Scotland’ issued by Scottish Golf:
This also contains a useful link to golfers' FAQs:
We ask all Members please to follow the ‘Procedures for Golfers’ set out in this Scottish Golf guidance.
I know we are all relieved and delighted that golf is about to begin again, and I look forward to the sight of Members returning to Gullane links before too long.
With best wishes,
