Secretary's Update - May 2018

Hopefully you will all have received your emails for the launch of the new website. In general, the launch seems to have gone well. We have had a few members who have had some difficulty logging in to the new site but we have managed to help them out, whether this has been them bringing their iPad/tablet to the office for us to help, or one of the team here talking them through the process over the phone. If anyone is still having difficulty logging in to either the website or BRS then let us know and we will be happy to help.

Over the coming weeks we will start to utilise more of the features of the new software, in particular the competition element, we will shortly be enabling the on-line sign up for competitions. We will let you know in advance what competition will be first for this, but it’s worth remembering the on-line sign up is just another option, you can still call the Starters or pop in and see them to enter.

On the subject of competitions, as the Captain has alluded to, we have now set up 5 new supplementary medals for members of GGC to play in. These competitions are slightly different to the style of the main medals, in that the tee is not reserved out for competition play. It is up to the golfers to just book an available tee time and play a round of competitive golf and then submit their cards once completed. There will still be a sweep and two’s and the results will be posted as normal. The playing format is the same, they must be played in either 2 or 3 balls only.

The dates and courses for the supplementary medals are as follows –

27th May on No2

23rd June on No2

24th July on the SO Composite course

26th August on No3

23rd September on No2

2018 ASI Scottish Open and Ladies Scottish Open

The volunteering link for the Scottish Opens is no longer active and it is assumed that everyone who wishes to volunteer has done so already.  Should anyone still wish to add their names at this late stage could they contact the Chief Marshal at somarshals@gmail.com

Information on members tickets and further info about both events can be found further on in the news update or on the website.

Our commitment to data security and protection

The deadline for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is just around the corner. To put your mind at ease, we’d like to assure you that we are addressing all the issues required by the new regulations.

Myself and Gordon Blair, our Finance Manager have recently attended an external training course to ensure the Club is addressing the main steps required to achieve this and have created a comprehensive plan of actions. Already major items like revising Privacy Policies, Documenting the Club’s personal data processes, Updating Data Subject Access Rights, Establishment of our Legal basis for processing data and updating the policy on Data Breaches are already in place. The Club view the protection of Personal Data from our Members, Visitors and Employees as extremely important and welcome this tightening of regulation under the GDPR.

Request for members to take part in consumer focus groups

We have been approached by one of the largest sports apparel manufacturers in the world (as worn by Tiger!) to ask if we could round up some members, both men and ladies to create a few consumer focus groups for them to come to the Club and chat with. Below is the message I recieved from Rebecca Kremer, their Global Golf Apparel Lead -

I work on Golf Apparel and would love to talk to some of the members about their golf attire.  We will be in Scotland the 24th May and wonder if this is something you would be able to help facilitate.  We would want to have men and women golfers to talk to and would engage with as many groups willing to talk to us.  We find groups no larger than 6 organized by gender work best so we can have a robust conversation.  We would ensure that we left them with a small reward for taking part. We are not looking for any other criteria than they play golf regularly and can  engage in conversation around what they wear to play in, where they purchase their product, how often they purchase product and what product they currently love and why regardless of what the brand is.

If you are interested in taking part in this could please email Julie with your availability, many thanks. Julie's email is golfadmin@gullanegolfclub.com

New Staff

We’re pleased to welcome two new staff members to our Golf Services team, some members will likely have met them already: Alan Gray joins as our new Starter covering both Box No.1 and No.2/3, whilst Fraser Carson will be responsible for Meet and Greet and Course Ranger duties.  In line with Stewart Duff’s concerns over pitch marks, Fraser will be checking that golfers are repairing their pitch marks, replacing divots and will be on course to monitor and help the pace of play. Both Alan and Fraser are enjoying their new roles and I trust you will welcome them both.
